Talks, Lectures, and Interviews
Children’s author Ann Lewin-Benham talks about her children's book PARSLEY at Chaucer's Bookstore, Santa Barbara
On 31 July 22, Chaucer’s Books, Santa Barbara, hosted a book talk by author/poet Ann Lewin-Benham, the first public presentation of her story-poem Parsley, a 44-page picture book. Ann introduced herself as mother, wife, grandma, author, school founder/director, museum founder/director and introduced her topic – elements of poetry such as rhythm, rhyme, word pictures, alliteration, and metaphor. Always the teacher, Ann had brought soil, parsley seeds, child-sized garden tools including watering cans, and planting instructions! But the crowd was all adults, not even one child. In good spirit, Chaucer’s was prepared to have the activity – dirt, water, and all – among the stores’ books! Ann’s helpers quickly realized that the audience, with many octogenarians, was more interested in purchasing than in planting! Many books were signed! |
